NEMANJA MATIC showed off his family’s commitment to Manchester United with a huge Old Trafford birthday cake for his son.

The former Chelsea midfielder enjoyed two spells at Stamford Bridge but his £40million switch to the Red Devils in the summer has clearly switched loyalties in the Matic household.

Son Filip was celebrating his 7th birthday with a football themed party and paired his United kit with a cake built like the famous stadium.

The Serbian was a star in Chelsea’s last Premier League winning side but, in a huge shock, he was flogged to their rivals and former boss Jose Mourinho.

Birthday cakes are a big deal among Manchester footballers – after the crazy backlash around Yaya Toure’s missed victoria sponge at Manchester City – and Matic made sure his boy had a stunning slice.

The 29-year-old has started every Premier League game so far, helping Jose Mourinho's side to second in the table.

And – with Paul Pogba continuing to struggle in his second coming – he will be vital in their Champions League trip to Sevilla on Wednesday for for the first leg of their last-16 tie.

Matic has told football bosses to speed up the VAR process after team-mate Juan Mata was denied  a goal against Huddersfield, following a painfully long delay.

He said: "I like it. I think it will be better for football.

"They just have to do it a little bit quicker because we waited so long for the decision.

“Two minutes is a long time on the pitch but I think overall it will be good for football.

"It’s normal that referees make mistakes every game and they can refer it to TV but it needs to be quicker.

"They have to do it in 30 seconds, so after two minutes we are cold and this is the only problem. Other than that I like it."
