Illinois used stolen signals against Michigan football in 2022, Ohio State accused too - GBMWolverine

It has been confirmed to The Wolverine that Illinois had Michigan football signals in 2022. Ohio State is suspected of the same thing in 2018 and 2019.

The saying that “people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones” certainly seems to apply to the Big Ten conference and some of its head coaches.

Ryan Walters, the head coach of the Purdue team that was dominated by Michigan football 41-13 on Saturday, spent last week complaining about how the Wolverines stole their signals.

“It’s unfortunate,” Walters said Thursday via On3. “What’s crazy is they weren’t allegations. It happened. There’s video evidence. There are ticket purchases and sales that you can track back. We know for a fact that they were at a number of our games, so we’ve had to teach our guys a new language in terms of some signals.”

Walters also addressed sign-stealing after losing to Michigan football by 28.

“Just calling a spade a spade, really, in terms of advantages or disadvantages,” Walters said. “I was just stating what happened. I didn’t think [it would be a big deal]. Usually when you tell the truth, it’s not like a big deal, you know what I mean?”

However, an Illinois staffer from last season where Ryan Walters was the defensive coordinator, has confirmed to The Wolverine that Walters and Illinois had stolen Michigan’s offensive signals last season.

The staffer said that Bret Bielema and Illinois got signals “legally” but I guess we’ll just have to take their word for it. Chris Balas also reports that Michigan suspects Ohio State of having its signals in 2018 and 2019.

Remember, in the 2019 Outback Bowl, the Wolverines held up signs to block their signals from the stands. Michigan also built a new fence around its practice field, which I’m sure is unrelated to the rumor that a Big Ten opponent had the Wolverines practice footage.

Of course, instead of complaining about Illinois — Michigan football switched to wristbands and won the game.

Ohio State, even though it admitted it changed its signals before the 2022 game, is still trying to use that as an excuse for the 45-23 loss to Michigan, which was apparent last week as Big Ten coaches (guessing Ryan Day and James Franklin) complained to the Big Ten commissioner.

Turns out, we should probably investigate everyone. Or, just give teams radios in the helmets which should have been done back in 1994.
