DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - An Atkinson woman is charged with using a family member’s credit cards and checkbook without permission, police say.

Kaylin Kempf, 32, is charged with dependent adult abuse, a Class D felony, three counts of forgery, a Class D felony, and second-degree theft, a Class D felony.

Accroindg to an arrest affdivt;

A report was filed with Davenport police on June 9, for a fraud complaint.

Kempf was a family member and voluntary caretaker of the woman at the time. Kempf told police she assisted the person because of a variety of medical issues.

While the woman was receiving medical treatment at a local nursing home in 2023, Kempf spent over $7,800 from the woman’s accounts without permission, including writing checks and using credit cards for 50-plus purchases, according to the affidavit.

A preliminary hearing is set for March 1, at the Scott County Courthouse, court records show. Kempf is being held on a $10,000 bond.
