Disney Dreamlight Valley finally has multiplayer, allowing players to visit their friends or show off their village.Although the multiplayer gameplay is somewhat limited, there are unique benefits, including item trading and the ability to find and collect a new, multiplayer-exclusive crafting item: Pixel Shards. This guide delves into everything players should know about this new crafting material in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
How to Get Pixel Shards
Introduced in Disney Dreamlight Valley's "The Pumpkin King Returns" update, Pixel Shards are a new crafting material obtainable exclusively in the game's multiplayer mode. Players can acquire these shards by exploring the different biomes while visiting other people's Valleys. While admiring their décor and landscaping, players might spot Pixel Shards on the ground, ready to be collected.
While playing in multiplayer with at least one other player, these rainbow-colored fragments will randomly appear throughout the Valley, with a new shard appearing every five minutes. Pixel Shard spawns are unique to each visitor; other players cannot see or collect someone else’s Pixel Shards. It is important to note that even if the player has activated the ValleyVerse multiplayer feature in their Valley, Pixel Shards won't spawn until another player joins their game.
What Are Pixel Shards Used For
Pixel Shards are essential for crafting two new item types: Glitchy Pixel Duplicates and Pixelized Cooking Flames. Both come in small and large variants, with the larger requiring more Pixel Shards but offering increased effects. Here’s how these special new items work:
Glitchy Pixel Duplicates
Glitchy Pixel Duplicates are crafted using Pixel Shards, with the recipes found under the Refined Materials tab at the crafting station. There are two different versions, both named Glitchy Pixel Duplicate, but depending on how many Pixel Shards are used, players can craft a version with 5 charges or one with 12 charges.
Glitch Pixel Duplicates are crafting items that act as a “wild card” to replace a material when building items at the crafting station, able to be substituted for any missing, required material in that recipe. Unfortunately, you cannot use a charge to replace an item in a recipe if you already have the materials. The most efficient use of this item is to replace the difficult-to-obtain Timebending Treasures required to craft Disney Dreamlight Valley's Timebending Training Manuals.
There was previously a bug involving the Glitchy Pixel Duplicates which caused players to lose Dreamlight, but this has been fixed. Affected players are compensated for their lost Dreamlight via in-game mail.
Pixelized Cooking Flames
Pixel Shards can also be used to craft Pixelized Cooking Flames. These consumable items, when used, grant a temporary special effect, similar to those of the Elixirs that enhance various gathering abilities including Fishing and Mining. These recipes can be found in the "Potions & Enchantments" category.
Under the influence of a Pixelized Cooking Flame, players produce an extra dish for every meal they craft at a cooking station. The regular Pixelized Cooking Flame works for 5 meals, while the Superior Pixelized Cooking Flame doubles the next 12 meals crafted. The number of available charges remaining is shown in a special icon at the bottom right corner of the screen when cooking.
