MCGREGOR, Texas (KWTX) - A Central Texas groom who says cooking is his love language proved it after making all the food for his wedding reception along with the bride’s wedding cake.
Marles Cooper wed Jessica Allen in a private family ceremony May 18 at Lover’s Leap in Cameron Park in Waco and the newlyweds then hosted a reception for friends and family at East McGregor Community Center in McGregor.
Marles, who is the current dietary manager for Woodland Springs Nursing Home in Waco, has spent more than a decade working in food services and has loved cooking as long as he can remember.
He’s has done everything from work as a line cook to a sous chef, prep cook and baker.
The groom said he couldn’t miss the opportunity to shower his bride with his talents.
The labor of love included smoking 30 pounds of chicken, cooking 66 burgers, 32 pounds of potatoes for potato salad, 100 servings of baked beans and 40 hot dogs.
And he didn’t stop there.
The talented groom also made Jessica’s dream wedding cake; a two-tiered red velvet masterpiece with homemade cream cheese icing.
“I love cooking,” Marles said. “I’ve been loving cooking like forever, ever, ever, ever. So, cooking is what they say is your passion, your love language. My love language and the best way to express myself is through food.”
It came as no surprise to Jessica that her husband wanted to take over kitchen duties.
He’s been impressing her with his food since their first date.
“Our first meal that we ate together was homemade, and there isn’t anything that he has cooked for me that hasn’t been the best thing I’ve ever eaten,” she said.
Jessica watched as Marles prepared food for several days leading up to the wedding.
She said the result of people they love getting to enjoy his food, made the reception even more memorable.
“As far as why it’s special for me, it’s so fun for me to watch him do something that he loves,” Jessica said. “Like, he is such a good cook. Everything he makes is just ridiculous and just to see him do what he loves, and I know it’s his language of love.”
While Jessica loved and appreciated all the food, she couldn’t take her eyes off their wedding cake which included a topper that read “Mr. & Mrs. Cooper.”
“It was so special that even during the stressful time of planning a wedding, working full time and managing our kids that he still wanted every last detail to be perfect,” Jessica said.
The couple will reside in McGregor, where Jessica is the Executive Director of the McGregor Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture.
