Texas Groom Cooked Dinner for Everyone at His Own Wedding and Baked the Red Velvet Cake! 'My Love Language' - PEOPLE

A Texas groom showed off his cooking skills by preparing all the food — and baking the cake for his wedding!

Marles Cooper, who works as a dietary manager at a nursing home and previously worked as a line cook, sous chef and baker, told KWTX that instead of hiring a catering company to handle all the food for his May 18 nuptials to longtime love Jessica Allen, he decided to take on the task himself.

“I love cooking,” Cooper told the outlet. “I’ve been loving cooking like forever, ever, ever, ever. So, cooking is what they say is your passion, your love language. My love language and the best way to express myself is through food.”

Since he met Allen, he has enjoyed creating countless meals for her. The bride told KWTX that Cooper even cooked dinner for her on their first date and has been making special creations for her ever since.

“Our first meal that we ate together was homemade, and there isn’t anything that he has cooked for me that hasn’t been the best thing I’ve ever eaten,” Allen shared.

That’s why for their wedding reception, Cooper decided to continue his tradition of cooking for his bride — along with their guests. Just like a marriage, it was a joint effort, as he told KWTX that “she made the grocery list and I made what she [wanted].”

He ended up cooking 66 burgers, 100 servings of baked beans and 40 hot dogs for the event. He also smoked 30 lbs. of chicken and prepped 32 lbs. of potatoes for potato salad, which had been packed away in stainless steel chafers.

In addition to his culinary skills, he also put his baking skills to the test, and created Allen’s dream wedding cake, which was a two-tiered red velvet cake with homemade cream cheese icing. The couple shared a photo of the treat, which was also decorated with red roses and a topper that read “Mr. & Mrs. Cooper.”

Allen noted that his cooking was a “special” addition to their big day that made it all the more memorable.

“It was so special that even during the stressful time of planning a wedding, working full time and managing our kids that he still wanted every last detail to be perfect,” Allen said.

“To see everybody [at the wedding] light up and just talk about how great his food was was really cool,” she added.

The couple, who resides in McGregor, Texas, said their nuptials were everything they hoped for, and Allen is proud of her husband for continuing to carry out his passion no matter what.

“It’s so fun for me to watch him do something that he loves,” she said. “He is such a good cook. Everything he makes is just ridiculous and just to see him do what he loves, and I know it’s his language of love.”
