Couple Do Hilarious Birthday Cake Challenge—Unprepared for the Results - Newsweek

It's the question on everyone's lips: Is it cake?

One man on TikTok may have made the cake to end the question forever, though. A video posted by Brit (@bmdvr) has gone viral for revealing her and her husband's birthday tradition of doing an "Is it cake?" challenge, to hilarious results. Since the video was posted on May 14, it has received over 689,000 views and nearly 100,000 likes on TikTok.

"My husband and I decided to do [an] 'Is it cake?' challenge every year for our birthdays," Brit captioned the video. "Who guessed it?"

The video shows Brit's husband holding a kitchen towel in front of his cake creation, building anticipation for the big reveal. His task? To make a cake that looks exactly like a white water bottle.

"Is it cake?" he asked.

"OK, I think it's the one on the left, that one," Brit replied, pointing to what was obviously the real water bottle.

"Believe it or not: cake," her husband said, cutting into his fondant-draped invention.

Viewers in the comments were shocked at the outcome—many were not even sure what Brit's husband was intending to replicate.

"It took me the longest time figure out both were supposed to be water bottles," @.sishell posted. "I thought the bottle just happened to be there."

"I was confused why he was comparing the Titanic to a water bottle," @b420024 wrote.

"I love how he used the sticks to keep it together when all he needed was the ingredients," @monica_g03 added.

Potential Contestants, But Not for 'Is It Cake?'

The couple was riffing on the viral internet trend "Is it cake?" which boasts over 616 million posts on TikTok, and the Netflix show of the same name. However, some viewers likened it more to another show on the streaming service called Nailed It! It tasks bad home bakers with recreating beautiful—and complicated—cakes, for a $10,000 cash prize.

"You should go on Nailed It!" @kelseycarter092 wrote, to which Brit replied, tagging the streaming service: "Hear that, Netflix. Consider that the audition."

Many commented only with the sarcastic refrain borrowed from the show, affirming Brit's husband the best way they knew how: "Nailed it."

Brit revealed in a later video that this was the first time the couple have implemented the tradition. After her husband's efforts, though, it seems as though the odds may be in her favor this year.

"July 10th is my time to shine," Brit wrote in the comments, alluding to her husband's upcoming birthday.
