Rancho Bernardo coach takes the cake - The San Diego Union-Tribune

Saturday was Joe Eddie Terribilini’s 41st birthday.

The Rancho Bernardo wrestling coach gladly spent all day at the San Diego Section Division I championships.

He also picked up the perfect gift, a third title.

RB easily outdistanced the field with 306.5 points for the team championship at Mission Hills High.

Mira Mesa was second with 306.5 points followed by Olympian with 194.5.

“All those titles are special,” said Terribilini, whose Broncos have never won a Palomar League title. “I never want to take any of them for granted.

“I think we turned a corner. It’s a good time for that. We are peaking at the right time.”

The top seven places in each weight division advance to the two-day masters meet starting Friday at El Centro Southwest High for a shot at earning a berth in the state championships Feb. 27-29 in Bakersfield.

In all, Terribilini’s Broncos advanced 10 wrestlers to the finals with eight of them going in as No. 1 seeds.

Seven of them left as individual champions, including freshman Ryan Badgett (132 pounds) and senior Gavin Concepcion (120), who both captured their first tournament titles this year.

“This is such a great feeling,” Ryan said. “I did something my older brother (Tyler) never did as a freshman.”

“To win my first tournament title to help us win CIF is tremendous.”

Rancho Bernardo had 13 wrestlers advance to the masters meet.

Also winning titles for the Broncos were Jacob Jones (106), Brandon Eusebio (113), Jaden Le (145), Tyler Badgett (152) and Javen Jovero (182).

The best match of the 14 finals came at 126 as San Ysidro’s Israel Ramirez edged Olympian’s Ryan Magsino 10-6 in a match with five lead changes.
