Bakery Cake Makeover Tips

Cakeover:

1. Buy a plain cake from a grocery store.

2. Find fun things to add to it:

To add flavor:

1. Add a layer to your cake by adding a store bought cheesecake! Just add to the bottom of your cake and refrost the exterior of the cake. You now have a cake with a cheesecake layer!

2. Make your own buttercream frosting and refrost the cake (see recipe below).

3. Using a level, cut the cake in half and fill with pie filling or jelly. Stack cakes back together and refrost.

For decorating, consider adding:

1. Edible gold flakes

2. Fancy ribbon around the bottom of cake

3. Fresh fruits like strawberries or blackberries

4. French Macarons

5. Flowers of all kinds. If you are worried about flowers wilting, use faux flowers which are often on sale at craft stores.

6. Letter stickers from craft store. Just hot glue the letter to a toothpick and you have a monogram.

7. Jewels on sticks! Find jewel stickers in the scrapbook dept at your craft store and hot glue them to a toothpick, stand them up on cake.

8. If cake already has frosting roses on it, consider smudging the colored frosting into the cake frosting unevenly for a water color effect. Sprinkle with edible glitter.

9. Add candies or lollipops, or use a unicorn cake kit that you can purchase at local cake stores and cakeover your cake to look like a popular unicorn cake!

10. Use different frosting tips to swirl different frosting swirls onto cake

Marshmallow Creme Buttercream Frosting Recipe:

13-14 oz Marshmallow Fluff or Cream

1 lb butter

1 tablespoon vanilla

dash salt (to lessen the sweetness a tad)

8 Cups Powdered Sugar (depending on how thick you want your frosting to be-use less for creamier frosting and more for thicker swirls)

• Use a spatula to scrape the fluff and the butter out into your stand mixer.

• Mix well until fluffy and well blended.

• Gradually add a pinch of salt and vanilla extract.

• Now add your powdered sugar, slowly until the frosting reaches desired consistency.

• (The more powdered sugar you add—the more stiff the frosting will be for decorating).
