On March 5, 2019, Mardi Gras celebrations will kick off with a King Cake at the center of many of the parties. Celebrating the holiday can begin now with Blue Bell Creameries Mardi Gras King Cake Ice Cream. As a popular regional favorite in Louisiana and Alabama, the flavor is now available nationwide for a limited time in a half gallon size.

"We have been making Mardi Gras King Cake since 2012, but the flavor has been mostly sold in areas known for the celebration such as Louisiana and Alabama. Last year a grocery store in Louisiana posted about the flavor's arrival on its Facebook page and we started receiving requests from all over the country. After that, we decided to share this festive flavor with everyone in our distribution areas," said Carl Breed, corporate sales manager at Blue Bell Creameries.

A traditional King Cake is known for its bold frosting exterior in shades of purple, green and gold and sweet cake interior. The Blue Bell Creameries ice cream version pays homage with festive candy sprinkles, a colorful cream cheese swirl and a cinnamon cake flavored ice cream. While the ice cream doesn't have the traditional "king" baby Jesus inside of the cake flavor for consumers to find, they will find that signature Blue Bell Creameries taste that does the holiday proud.

First introduced in two separate flavors, the 2019 version includes elements of 2004 Mardi Gras and 2006 release King Cake ice creams. Always innovating to meet customer demand and introduce new flavors, Blue Bell Creameries has taken the best of both flavors to create the 2019 Mardi Gras King Cake ice cream. Another holiday favorite ice cream, Christmas Cookies, has a viral following that has consumers parading down grocery store aisles looking for the holiday hit. Mardi Gras King Cake promises to be a 2019 winter favorite as well.

"We still receive requests for Mardi Gras and King Cake because our fans never forget a flavor. But, you have the best of both worlds with our Mardi Gras King Cake Ice Cream," says Breed.

While Blue Bell Creameries are based in Texas, adding the Mardi Gras King Cake ice cream to a Mardi Gras celebration is as simple as visiting local grocery and big box stores; prices vary by store but paying with Mardi Gras beads is not allowed. While Mardi Gras may only last for a Tuesday in March, consumers can now keep the holiday parade going with the Bluebell Creameries Mardi Gras King Cake ice cream.
