TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) - Kansas' birthday is on Tuesday, and expert cake decorators from a Dillons in Topeka are already hard at work creating this year's cake.
The cake will be taken to the capitol on Tuesday for the annual celebration of Kansas' birthday.
It's a difficult task for one local pastry chef, but representing Kansas at the capitol is part of family tradition.
"It's a family tradition between my sister and I," said Lauren Berg, a Pastry Chef at Dillons. "She's had her artwork featured at the state capitol. I've had now 3 cakes featured at the capitol, so it's a nice little tradition and honor to both of us."
This year's theme is "105 counties, 105 stories."
The cake features different historical and cultural elements of Kansas, like the yellow brick road from "The Wizard Of Oz", and images involving the Brown v. Board case.
