Michael B. Jordan’s Mom Made Oprah a Special Rum Cake - Parade

Michael B. Jordan’s mom had the chance to meet Oprah recently at a Golden Globes nominations party, and she was so excited to meet her idol that she baked her a cake.

“My mom made her a special rum cake to say thank you,” Jordan told Jimmy Fallon during a visit to The Tonight Show Friday. “[Oprah] went to Hawaii I think that night, and her and Stedman in the morning, she had my mom’s rum cake for breakfast, and she recorded it and put it up online, and we got so much attention, so much love for it.”

Oprah posted a cute video of her longtime partner, Stedman Graham, obsessing over the cake, which he said was the best cake he’d ever had.

“It was a dream come true, you don’t understand, like my mom is such a huge fan of Oprah, and my grandmother was too, God rest her soul,” Jordan said. “So I know she was smiling down at this moment that her rum cake recipe made it to Oprah’s house.”

The actor also talked about what a huge year 2018 was for him, with his roles in the blockbusters Black Panther and Creed II. He says he still can’t get over the positive impact that Black Panther has had.

“Representation, being able to see yourself up on screen in a positive way that’s not stereotypical,” he said. “In a position of power, of royalty, regular family dynamics, having history, having that culture, that mythology there, was extremely important.

“It seems like God gave me everything I wanted at one time, so I’m just kind of taking it all in stride and working hard,” he said.
