The world's most beloved hippopotamus Fiona turned two on Thursday. If you're failing to understand the significance of such a birthday, let me catch you up.
In 2017, Fiona was the first Nile hippo to be scanned in her mom's womb. She was also the first of her species to be born at the Cincinnati Zoo in 75 years. Born six weeks early and weighing only 29 pounds (the average weight for her species is 55 to 120 pounds), she couldn't stand and needed to be fed milk by a bottle. 😩
But two years later the preemie is healthy as ever and weighs a whopping 1,000 pounds. And although she's only a toddler, she's already crazy famous. Like has her own ice cream flavor famous.
Even her love life has been a subject for speculation. Timothy the Hippo from Texas has reportedly been vying for her affection and sent a mariachi band to serenade her on Thursday. But as a mere toddler, Fiona's too young to date, and it doesn't seem like she cares. (Let's face it, although she was very adorable, it was kinda immature when she photobombed that couple's engagement photos.)
More than anything else, Fiona enjoyed eating her ginormous cake, with her mom Bibi, to celebrate. The cake: a four layer frozen fruit and juice cake topped with beet pulp. Attagirl.
